Grooming eyebrows - a monobrow is so passe
Having one eyebrow spanning your entire face is not a good look and can be an embarrassing problem, unless you're a Noel Gallagher impersonator of course. Fear not metrosexual help is at hand.
Eyebrows are odd creatures in the sense that we don't really take any notice of eyebrows until we spot the lad who has had them shaved them off on some drunken night out or the old guy in the office with the really long bushy eyebrows. Neglected eyebrows can hinder your look but by taking the time to tame those problem brows you can take years off you appearance and go from looking "lowbrow to highbrow" in no time.
Whether you have a monobrow or just a few stray hairs you want rid of here is the metro-sexual guide to great looking eyebrows.
Step1 - get the right kit
• Get yourself into the bathroom with a magnifying mirror and a good pair of tweezers. Plucking your eyebrows is not the most pleasant experience in the world but having to tug at the same hair 2 or 4 times because your tweezers won't grip it is just plain annoying so make sure you tweezers are sharp.
• Always run your tweezers under the hot tap for a while before use to sterilise them.
• We don't recommend shaving your eyebrows as the last thing you want is a five o'clock shadow above your eyes. Plus the hair may grow back even thicker.
Step2 - plan your attack
• Pluck those stray hairs just after you have had a shower. The steam and water helps to open your pores allowing the hairs to be removed with less effort thus reducing your discomfort!
• Map out the hairs you want to remove to avoid you getting carried away and suddenly requiring the services of an eyebrow pencil to draw them on again!
• If you suffer from a monobrow and are not sure how much to pluck place a pencil or bic along the ridge of your nose. Your eyebrows should start at the edge of the pencil/ bic so remove all the hairs in between.
• For bushy or wide eyebrows don't try to totally restyle them. Stay close to your natural shape and just refine them and remove the longer hairs.
Step3 - finishing touches
• After you have finished you may experience a little redness. Give the site a wipe with some antiseptic to cleanse and close the pores.
• You may also want to add a little moisturiser.
If you don't feel comfortable about shaping your eyebrows for the first time you may want to go to a salon to have them done then all you need to do after that is a little maintenance now and again.
For those of you who are brave enough or for those of you who have heavy eyebrow growth you may want to give waxing a try. This technique removes the hair and hair root, and is longer lasting than plucking (the roots take several weeks to re-establish themselves). While this may be a little stingy, the method takes only seconds and the pain disappears quickly!
