Metrosexual or bust!
Since we brought our metrosexual portal to the consumer we have been regularly asked two questions; why metrosexual and what is OUR definition of metrosexual? It therefore seems apt to once more become the alpha male and voice an answer to these metrosexual quandaries.
In tackling the aforementioned questions it would seem logical to look at our definition of metrosexual as a preamble to the ultimate question 'why metrosexual?'
Our definition of metrosexual
Aside from the obvious 'a blend between metropolitan and heterosexual' this has been a contentious issue since 1994.
Any research into Mark Simpson's metrosexual man will generate a host of meanings of metrosexual - perhaps one of the most commonly used definitions is that given in the Wiktionary:
Noun: metrosexual (plural metrosexuals)
A man concerned with self-image, self-indulgence and money.(Usually urban, heterosexual, probably affluent).
A man who is seen, sociologically, as having attributes common to homosexuals, but is in fact heterosexual
Alternatively there's the Word Spy definition:
metrosexual (met.roh.SEK.shoo.ul) n. An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.
—metrosexuality n.
Both refer to the urban male who dresses well and spends money on his appearance. However, both also fall into the pit fall of trying to emphasise the spending and by highlighting the cash element.
I disagree. Metrosexuality isn't about how concerned with cash you are or how much you spend. Neither is it about self indulgence. Could you really define a man who over indulges with food and booze and spends thousands on branded suits that don't fit, a metrosexual? No! These definitions are weak.
The metrosexual man has also been defined as "being in touch with his feminine side" As with the previous definitions the answer is in some ways yes and in some ways no.
The fact is the metrosexual man has realised the importance, and the matching benefits, of taking care of one's appearance. The metrosexual man has taken this realisation and has been smart enough to put a price on it.
It is believed that first impressions are made in 3 -6 seconds, 55% of the impression is determined by appearance, 30% based on tone of voice and only 15% based on what you say.
Put a price on it! Dressing well gets you 55% of the way there. Knowing you look great adds a tone of confidence to your voice and gets you through the next 30%. Bingo! First impression - 85% before you've said anything.
Metrosexuality therefore isn't measured by self indulgence or how much you spend it's measured by that first impression. The cost? Whatever it takes for YOU as an individual to create that perfect first impression.
And so I give you my definition of a metrosexual: A new breed of man, unafraid to look and feel his best at all times.
Its simple and it's flexible, spend what you need to spend, act how you want to act but feel great about it.
Why metrosexual?
We search out the top advice and top quality products so that the consumer doesn't have to. We find specialist 'boutique' products because they are designed specifically for men - men's skin is more than 20% thicker than a woman's and so specialist products are needed.
So why then risk alienating ourselves from some men with a term such as metrosexual you ask? The answer is simple and relates back to our definition of metrosexual. Every man likes to feel good and every man has a favourite item of clothing that makes him feel good. On this basis every man is - maybe only a tiny bit in some cases - but is metrosexual.
Men can use our site and know for sure they are receiving top quality metrosexual products and metrosexual guidance. Knowing that the shave you had today was nothing but quality, the shirt you are wearing fits like a glove and the recipe you've got planned for this evening will be first class, all makes you feel great and THAT is why metrosexual.
Look good, feel good and live life!
